Modern Luxury Residence at Oxley
Complete interior design solutions — covering concept and detailed design development
Designing a 15,328 sqft townhouse offered the rare opportunity to craft a home not as a singular space, but as a sequence of living experiences. Spanning multiple levels, the residence unfolds through a series of thoughtfully curated interiors, each carrying its own atmosphere and design identity. Rather than adhering to a single overarching theme, the home embraces a diversity of spatial moods — from expansive entertaining areas to more intimate family settings.
The generous scale allowed each space to be considered individually while remaining connected through careful planning and transitions. Custom-built elements and architectural detailing anchor the large volumes, ensuring that the home feels both cohesive and deeply personal.
BASEMENT
Guests arriving from the carpark pass through the basement before beginning a whimsical journey into the home. Crossing the threshold reveals a realm of playful design, where the atmosphere immediately shifts into something delightfully unexpected. Around 9 meters down the main entrance, a door marked “Show Time” signals the entrance to the basement entertainment room — a playful, theatrical reveal that sets the tone for the unexpected experiences within.
Stepping into the home, the floors adorned in striking black and near-white hues, set the tone with a bold and unconventional contrast. This graphic interplay establishes a lively and visually captivating environment, shaping a home that feels both fun-filled and refreshingly distinctive. Each step forward invites a sense of curiosity, encouraging visitors to embrace the unexpected as whimsy and wonder unfold throughout the space.
To the left, a striking sculptural staircase anchors the entrance, guiding the ascent to the upper floor. Finished in polished plaster with gracefully curved corners, its elegant form is accentuated by a sleek black handrail that stands out against the softly rendered matte walls. The cantilevered steps appear to float effortlessly, softly illuminated by discreet LED strip lights integrated along both sides of the solid banister. This subtle illumination not only highlights the sculptural quality of the staircase but also enhances its sense of lightness, reinforcing its sleek and minimal presence within the space.
The black-and-white flooring continues seamlessly into the entertainment room, maintaining the home’s whimsical design language and reinforcing visual continuity. A gently curved ceiling, finished in white, reflects light throughout the space, enhancing brightness and openness. Reflective surfaces were strategically incorporated to give the relatively compact room a sense of depth and visual expansion.
Inside, the layout centres around a poker table positioned directly in front of the entrance, immediately establishing the room’s purpose. To the left, a bar with high seating invites guests to gather, drink, and watch the games unfold — completing a lively and immersive entertainment setting.
Behind a sleek black glass sliding door, a wine chiller is discreetly tucked away, while the adjoining guest powder room delivers a bold statement in black and gold. Dark tones establish a moody, intimate atmosphere, while metallic accents add glamour, echoing the theatrical spirit of the entertainment area and reinforcing the sense of playful surprise throughout the basement.
1ST STOREY
Ascending to the first-storey, guests may arrive either by the sculptural staircase or via the lift. To the right, the space opens into the living lounge, conceived as a relaxed environment for intimate family gatherings. An expressive, emotionally evocative wallpaper forms the artistic backdrop of the room, lending depth and personality while soft furnishings encourage a comfortable, laid-back atmosphere.
Positioned at the center of the house is the lift. On the left side is an identical entrance that quietly conceal a different function.
The door leads to a refreshing powder room designed in an earthy palette that reflects the overall mood of the first level. Grounded tones and natural marble grains create a calm and inviting retreat, offering a subtle moment of pause within the flow of the home.
Beyond this area, to the far left, lies the dining and kitchen area, where the design shifts into a more vibrant expression. The dramatic curved ceiling feature reappears here, finished in a striking orange polished plaster, while a crystal chandelier suspended beneath it becomes the visual centrepiece of the space. Complementary marble surfaces were carefully selected to balance the bold ceiling tone, paired with cream marble flooring and textured wall finishes that add richness and warmth.
Rather than employing a conventional partition, the transition between the dining and kitchen is articulated through a full-height sliding pivot door system, in the same orange polished plaster finish. The panels can be fully retracted to the sides or repositioned freely within the opening as decorative screens, allowing the two spaces to merge into a single expansive entertaining zone. When closed, the doors create a gentle separation, allowing the kitchen to recede discreetly from view while maintaining visual harmony within the dining space.
2ND STOREY
On the second level, positioned conveniently near the lif t, there’s a pantr y that ser ves both the small lounge and the guest room on the same floor.
The guest suite includes its own ensuite bathroom and an adjoining cosy lounge area that has the versatility to transform into a serene reading room, offering guests a private retreat for relaxation or quiet leisure.
Towards the rear of this level, you’ll find the work lounge, complete with an AV system and a home-automation system. Upon entering, there’s a semi-formal modular sofa seating arrangement, ideal for meetings and discussions.
The existing balcony floor has been raised with engineered timber decking to align seamlessly with the living room’s floor level, creating a continuous flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Perched along the expansive balcony, a generously proportioned, custom L-shaped cushioned storage sofa is lined with plush pillows, offering a versatile lounge perfect for lively gatherings or quiet moments of reflection. A discreet mini bar, complete with a wine chiller carefully tucked beneath, provides ease of access for entertaining without interrupting the clean aesthetic. Above, 100 pendant spheres are suspended at gently undulating heights — a precise 100 for the discerning eye — casting a soft, enchanting glow as evening falls. From sunrise to sunset, the balcony transforms into a space of inspiration, relaxation, and conviviality, blending elegance with comfort in every detail.
3RD STOREY
Behind the hidden speakeasy door at the living lounge lies a versatile, multi-purpose room that effortlessly adapts to work, play, and leisure. Acoustic panels and sound-dampening sheets were incorporated into the design of the room to create a quiet workspace by day, while ensuring the perfect ambience for karaoke nights.
During the weekday, the room becomes a focused work haven, with soft recessed lighting that changes colour to suit your mood, taking the shape of the acoustic ceiling panels for a stylish yet subtle effect. A custom plush geometric rug echoes the ceiling’s design, enhancing comfort and visual harmony, while bespoke decorative panels around the desk provide a modern backdrop any gamer would love. When the weekend arrives, the room seamlessly transitions into a social hub, where friends can gather to play games or sing their lungs out.
